MUMBAI: Twelve party workers of the Republican Party of India (RPI) were booked by the Malwani police on charges of unlawful assembly after they organized a gathering at Madh. The accused also burnt the effigy of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav.
The incident took place around 6 pm on Sunday near the Sena shakha at Madh Jetty opposite Pascalwadi. RPI workers had organized the gathering to protest against inflation. They also wanted to discuss the recruitment of youths into the party. While the gathering was on, some of the party workers started shouting slogans against Yadav and set fire to his effigy.
